We Are Maritime Careers

My Maritime Careers is a platform developed by the Lundeberg Maryland School of Seamanship, in partnership with the Seafarers International Union (SIU). Our job opportunities are suited for entry-level candidates interested in pursuing a seafaring career, as well as partially qualified mariners, veterans with military experience, and seasoned mariners seeking to advance their careers.

The SIU represents thousands of professional mariners aboard oceangoing, inland waterways, and Great Lakes commercial, passenger, military support, and trading vessels.

Together, we are the largest merchant mariner union in the United States.

Who We Are

Be Part of Our Legendary Community

The Seafarers International Union is steeped in a rich history revolved around creating maritime jobs for Americans. The organization was founded in 1938 amidst the Great Depression as a way to promote fair employment opportunities for men and women during troubling times.

Learn About SIU History

In 1967, the Harry Lundeberg School of Seamanship was founded to offer training facilities to those interested in joining the brotherhood and becoming a professional mariner. We wanted to make the school’s facilities as accessible as possible by providing free tuition to anyone accepted into the Apprentice Program.

Our experienced crew of mariners has responded to wartime and humanitarian efforts throughout the decades. Such initiatives have given the Seafarers International Union the reputation for being a compassionate union not only interested in helping their own members with beneficial careers, but also interested in helping communities in need.

By 2005, the Seafarers International Union had over 35,000 members. Our members and vessels are spread across every ocean, coast, and US waterway. But no matter where we travel, we are always united by our unique brotherhood.
